Apple, however, forced to replace Frayed MagSafe power cords

Apple hit with class action. They do not believe they are at fault, but they decided to settle anyway. Any old school Mac owners who have MagSafe power cords of origin, and had the melee on them, can now obtain a free replacement or little money. This is great news if you’re stuck with a broken charger. Now you do not have to spend a penny to get a new one.

To file a claim you simply head to your local Apple Store or Apple Authorized Service Center with your charging cable damaged and they will issue a free replacement. Fortunately, Apple is making the process easy and enjoyable, so you will not have to go through with anything for broadcast a new one.

There is a catch though. Apple reserves the right to reject your cable if it shows signs of damage that are not caused by manufacturing defects. They can not replace it if it shows signs of “damage strain relief” which they define as “fraying, melting, effort, sparks decay, discoloration, bubbling, the overheating and / or separation of the strain relief of the adapter. “
